My dear friend Matt, you were always my gentle giant, my own version of Grizzly Adams. I am so happy to have been able to call you a friend. You were the strong silent type, but everyone who knew you, knew you had a pure heart. My deepest condolences to Sally and your family. I will miss you dearly...

I first met Matt in 1990 when me and Brian were renting a townhouse in London. Brian had asked if we should take on a roommate to help lower the cost of rent. I said sure and he came home with Matt.. I thought to myself this guy is pretty scary looking with long hair and a thick beard and all covered in dirt from head to toe. But soon realized that he was a great guy. We moved from there to the old farmhouse at Bradley and Airport Rd where we stayed for about 14 years then moved across the street to the other farmhouse for about 7 years before Matt bought his house in Wallacetown. The house was built around a trailer! The boys all got together and tore the trailer out of the house and rebuilt the whole inside of the house. Matt loved his house. It was everything he was looking for, in the middle of nowhere with a forest in the back where he could hunt and chop down trees. Matt was the hardest working guy that I know. He would put in 12 hour days 6 days a week and do calls all night. He didn't get much sleep back then! He was promoted to a management position at City Tire and I was happy for him as he would no longer be woken up all hours of the night to do service calls and could get a goodnight sleep. His phone would still go off all hours of the night with people asking him questions so not very often would he get a goodnight sleep and he was still working 12 hour days 6 days a week. Matt loved fishing and hunting and would go any chance he could. We had many good times fishing on his boat either on lake Erie at Port Glasgow or Port Bruce or Georgian Bay at Wiarton or Owensound. We always had a freezer full of fish, venison and Moose. Matt was a man of very few words, I guess he did enough of answeing questions all day at work and didn't want to be answering questions all night. The woman loved Matt, once they figured out that they had to make him talk, and he loved the attention. He was the picture of the strong and silent type and he was incredibly strong! Matt has been one if my best friends and looked out for me and always had my back no matter what. I will miss you Matt. I love you like a brother and will see you again in the next life. Rest in pease my brother!

Spent many hot days at the cottage, spent many cold days ice fishing. Time was too short but cherished every moment. We gained a great friend and an inspiration too us all. You will be missed but never forgotten and heaven just gained the best perch fisherman there ever was. Show them how its done Buddy.
