Fond memories of Fred as a coach and owner of sports store. He let us have the keys to the arena so we could get in early to get the lights on and get in an extra hour of ice time. My condolences to the family.

Please accept my condolences - from those days in Sports World - through the rinks of Northern Ontario and Quebec , Fred always had that personality that shone through . Remembering those Friday after work socials and dinners at the Fed and the conversations with all of the regulars that Fred carried on

Jinny & family, so sorry for your loss, I have counted Fred as a friend since I was 12 years old, hanging around at Broadway Ave School. A long time ago! So many of that group are gone now. Please accept my deepest condolences to your family

Condolences to Ginny, Lizzy and Darryl,
I have many memoires of dealing with Fred from his humble beginnings through all his coaching and at the big store. He was a good man who was tough but honest. He spoke his mind, and he let you know where you stood. I learned a lot from him over the years. He will be missed by so many who were fortunate enough to call him friend. Thnking of you all at this sad time.

So many stories about Fred and Ginny! Mom playing baseball with Giny. I still have my blue fleece jacket bought in the store in K.L. the look on Fred's face when I gave him my "boobs" (knitted post breast cancer fillers) I can still hear his laugh! He was a hardass, opinionated, full of love and inquisitive! He will be missed! I want to be there for the celebration of life! Love to all!

When I moved back to Kirkland Lake to work at the family store, Fred came by and shook my hand, “Welcome back, Sean!” I will always remember that big hand and smile! Fast forward a few months later and Fred drops by again and invites me to a merchant promotional committee. He quickly nominates me as a Director. Boom approved all the while he’s looking at me with that same big grin! RIP Freddy.

Hard to imagine Fred gone…I remember one time years ago, I was at the bar and I could hear him yelling “wide load!” So I turned around to see what he was talking about and he started laughing because he was calling me Wide Load because I had gained some weight! We laughed and laughed and he then called me that ever since, even when I lost weight!. Man, he was funny. Fred, I am sure you and Junior are telling stories already.
Love to you all

Fred and Ginny were very close friends of my parents. When my mother passed away, I was young. At my mother's funeral, having not seen me for years, Fred and Ginny offered for me to come to KL to stay with them should I need to get away and have a quiet place to stay. That is the kind of person Fred was (and Ginny still is).
My sincere condolences to the entire family for your loss.

Such a sad loss of a town icon. I can still remember the day I went into Sports World to buy a hockey stick which was pretty much twice a week and I was checking out a KOHO pro stick ( the same model Chuck Bowman used with his stint with the Blue Devils) and when I was checking the flex the stick broke in half. To be honest the inside of the stick was bone dry and Fred told me I just bought a broken stick. Naturally I pleaded my case of it being bone dry and wasn't paying for it. Well Fred said to me to either pay for it or leave the store and never come back. I needed a new stick and only had enough money for 1 stick so chose the later. Well bying sticks in KL at the time was pretty selective but I managed for a couple months. I ended up going back to Sports World hoping he had forgotten and apologised for the incident. He must have been missing my spending because he accepted my apology and allowed me to buy a stick. The rest is history.
My deepest condolences to Giny and the familly.

Let’s face it! Freddy was a hard driving coach that expected nothing but the most from his players. Bag skates were invented by Fred! At 6 am in the cold old arena!
And he was a guy that had his opinions and was not fearful of displaying them. He would have fitted well into a cowboy movie. The harsh grizzled character that he could be…
But the story would seem so one sided if you didn’t know the whole guy.
Fred Loooooved Blue rodeo for instance….a well coached hockey team with discipline, even if it was “ the other team”. He was super competitive, which I loved…as passionate as any sports fan, with plenty of prognosticating and pontification in the wings.
He was a hard driving cattle owner (in my comparison:) which he tried to balance and often did with tenderness and thoughtfulness.
Hey… he was Freddy… plain and simple… whom we loved and are deeply saddened to be without. Memories of him(one of my fave coaches) will live in my bones forever .
Big love and hugs to Ginny his amazing Robin, to Freddy’s Batman… my buddy Daryl , sweet Liz and all the grandies and family in his camp.
Love you all… the big guy will always be in our thoughts.
