Obituary of Jean Gibson

Gibson, Jean.

Born Dorothy Jean Dale (Feb 6, 1934). Predeceased by husbands Blair Gibson (2019) and Carman Hourd (1987). Jean died gently and peacefully in the early hours of February 22, 2022.  88 years and 16 days young.

Jean lived with severe kidney disease for the past 13 years and received dialysis for the last 3.

Loving Mom to: Dave and Lynda Hourd, Livonia Mi;  Marian Hourd, London; Bill and Nancy Hourd, Norwich;  Don Hourd, London;  Barb Edwards and Fred Pries, Victoria BC.  Beloved Grandma to 9:  Jenn ( Steve) Long;  Kristy (Phil) Heather;  Charisse Furfaro; Katie (Steve) McKiel;  Patty Hourd;  Nick (Andrea) Hourd;  Chris (Natalie) Hourd;  Rob (Tatiana) Hourd;  and Mike Edwards.  Great Grandma Gibson to 14.

The Dale family matriarch, Jean is survived by siblings: Carmen Dale; Dona Johnston; Doris (Llyod) Grove; and John (Lynda) Dale. Also sister in law Barbara Dale and brother in law Larry Grove. Predeceased by brother Stan Dale and sister Mary Grove. Remembered by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Loved by her chosen 4H family of good friends.

Mom, Jean, Grandma Gibson, Grandma Jean, Aunt Jean was valued by family, friends and neighbours.  Her smile was infectious and her hugs legendary.  Jean was always ready to lend a hand to a neighbour and at any community function.  Cooking for her church, serving Canada Day pancakes in Komoka, a volunteer Grandma for the Children’s Aid daycare, and so many more acts of kindness.

Jean didn’t want a funeral. She wanted her family to hold a big party.  We will honour later when all can attend.

Jean always has a special smile for any child she encountered.  Please consider donations to the Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit, Children’s Hospital of Western Ontario or the charity of your choice.

Jean will be interred beside her much loved husband, Carman Hourd in Dorchester Union Cemetery.
