Obituary of Sandra Madeline Katherine Koenig

KOENIG, Sandra Madeline Katherine Oct 1, 1938 - Mar 10, 2017 Peacefully at Mount Hope Centre for Long Term Care where "Sandy" had resided for 51 years, in her 79th year. Sandra was born and raised in Hanover, Ontario to the late Eugene Kueneman and Violet Seip. Loving mother of Janice Koenig and her husband Larry Berger of London and Wanda Bacon and her husband John Bacon of Parkhill. Dear sister of Ron and Bernice Kueneman of Lambeth. Proud grandmother of John Bacon, Diane Bacon (Mark Timmermans), Mary Ann Bacon and James Bacon. Sandy loved her family and life. Those who were fortunate enough to know Sandy know what a special person she was and her indomitable spirit. She was always smiling and an inspiration to all. She especially loved going to the horse races. On her 50th anniversary at Mt. Hope 2 ponies attended her party and were the highlight of the event. A video of this celebration was recorded and shows her love of everyone and joy at just being alive. She will be especially missed by her friends Renata, Anne, Beth, Carol and countless others. She will also be missed by her special furry friend Maggie. To all the staff at Mount Hope Centre for Long Term Care St. Mary's since August 28, 1965 the family wants to issue a heartfelt thanks for your care and concern of Sandy knowing there are too many to mention by name. However, we do have to especially thank the 5th floor staff that attended to her in her final days including Donna, Florence, Merlie, Jennifer, Karen and many others. There have been many staff members that became good friends of Sandy over the years. Cremation has taken place with internment at Woodland Cemetery. A private family committal service will be officiated by Katherine Spannemann at the gravesite. A spiritual service conducted by Reverend Katherine Altenburg of Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church will be held at Mount Hope Centre for Long Term Care, St. Mary's, 21 Grosvenor St, London ON on Friday, March 17/2017 at 10:30am with visitation one hour prior to the service.
