Obituary of Irene Janet Malloy Thornton

THORNTON, Irene Janet Malloy (nee Wallace) – Following a brief but brave battle with cancer, Irene passed on Thursday, February 22, 2017 at the age of 68 in London, Ontario. Irene was the beloved wife of nearly 48 years to Malcolm, the cherished mother of David and his wife Allison, and devoted grandmother to Rachel and Christopher. Beloved sister of Billy (Betty). Predeceased by brother Thomas (May) and sister Jeannette. Sister-in-law to Jim (Audrey), Nancy (Tim) and Elizabeth (Brian). She is remembered fondly by many nieces and nephews and by her close friends. Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Irene emigrated to Canada in 1966. She was a strong woman with a strong work ethic, a wonderful dry wit and a sharp mind who will be remembered for her love of animals, Neil Diamond music, and a spotless home. She delighted in her grandchildren and spoiled them thoroughly and shamelessly. A private family service of blessing will be held in her memory prior to interment of her ashes at Woodland Cemetery, London. Friends are invited to gather for a reception in celebration of Irene’s life at River Bend Golf and Country Club, 1200 Sandy Somerville Dr., London, on Friday, March 3, 2017 from at 1-4 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the London Humane Society are welcomed.
