Obituary of Monica Alphonsa Pol
Monica Alphonsa Pol (nee Metz) (Monie)
November 10, 1931 – January 3, 2021
Monie passed away peacefully at Dearness Home London in her 90th year. We were privileged to have her in our lives, share her enthusiasm for life and remind us of our blessings. Born November 10, 1931, the 11th child in a family of 14 from Leeuwarden, The Netherlands. Loving wife of the late Joe for 62 years. Caring mother of William (Dorothy) and John. Dearest Oma to Joshua, Sarah, Kyra and Karissa. Predeceased by her parents Cornelis and Catharina Metz and many brothers and sisters in The Netherlands. Survived by her siblings Anton, Theo and Cobie. She will be sadly missed by many family members in Canada and The Netherlands.
Monie came to Canada in 1955 and worked for London Life Insurance, St. Willibord Credit Union and Jeffery and Associates lawyers for many years, while raising her family. Her voice was often heard selling Pol’s Orchard apples at farmer’s markets. Her many intangible treasures included her love of God and family, respect, acceptance of freedom and her ability to spread laughter. Her mischievous card playing motto was “it is not how you play, it is how you count.” Her wisdom was shared and will live on. Her love of life was contagious. She lived it by travelling the world and embracing the simplicities of a sunrise or a good morning tea. She was a wonderful friend to anyone she met. She was an enthusiastic member of the Dutch Canadian Society, Holy Rosary Parish, the Church Guild, the Catholic Women’s League and Fanshawe Yacht Club. The family wishes to thank the staff at Dearness Home Forest Glen for their years of compassionate care. We thank God for a wonderful life and look forward to meeting Mom and Oma again.
