Obituary of Douglas John Dickson
Peacefully and with dignity, Douglas (Doug) John Dickson passed away at Parkwood Hospital, Veterans Care on February 18th, 2020 in his 96th year.
Predeceased by his first wife Jean (Campbell) in 1995 and second wife Donna (Daly) in 2019. Also predeceased by his youngest daughter Joanne (1980) and son Paul (1988). Doug is survived by his daughter Karen Stone (Steve), daughter-in-law Carol and grand daughter Stephanie. He leaves behind his sisters Yvonne and Patricia, as well as many loved nieces, nephews and their families. Doug also leaves behind his close friends Gary Martins and his wife Eileen (Toby).
Doug formed many important and long lasting relationships over the years when he served as principal and educator for the TVDSB. Notable among them were Doug McCandless and Bill Carey. Following retirement from Byron Southwood P.S. in 1982 Doug worked as a clerk for the High Court until 1998. For over 60 years he served as a proud member of the Lions Clubs of Port Dover, London North and Lambeth. Doug was a veteran of WWII, actor, singer, author, educator, leader, colleague and friend who was endeared by all those who knew him. He lived his life in service to others in all his endeavours.
Cremation has taken place. A funeral service, Lions service, interment and celebration of Doug’s life will take place in April. The date, time and details will be made available on the Woodland Cemetery website.
