We are saddened to hear of Conrad’s passing, as it seems only yesterday that he closed Grains and Beans on Piccadilly St. We were regular customers from when Conrad and the family ran the store on Richmond St. (at Pall Mall) and came to appreciate not just the affordable, high quality natural foods, but the friendly discussions about food and its production. With the wealth of free brochures and reprinted articles, his store offered an educating as well as a (self-serve) shopping experience. We have recounted Conrad’s friendly demeanour and unique store many times, and know his can-do attitude around food and health has influenced many of us. Our thoughts are also with his family for their loss.

Our year together at Western taking the Masters course was a turning point for most of us. We shared visions of what we viewed to be matters of environmental importance and of course many other personal interests. Visits followed in Dundas and Ottawa. Conrad spoke of his hydroponics and insights into so many other things that we explored with him Estelle regaled us with harrowing stories of her adventures in South Africa. Conrad's crazy laugh still rings in my ears. So today, those wonderful memories came flooding back - quite literally - tears are indeed shed when a person has made such a positive impact on your life - and quite obviously on so many others. Elizabeth and I hope that the family is able to find solace in recalling the contributions Conrad was able to make to so many lives and his many achievements. We are thankful to have been fortunate enough to meet Conrad who will continue to live on with us.

It was devastating to hear the sad news. I find it hard to write this as it is so difficult for me to take in the fact the Conrad is no longer with us. I can't remember how long I had been friends with him but there was a kinship right from the start and I felt I had known him forever. When we were sick, and even in other situations, we supported each other like no one else could! I often admired his ethics which were super human. He enriched us all with his wealth of knowledge and was an outstanding humanitarian in the true sense of the word. Hard to believe he is gone so very very sad - will miss him terribly...
It was only a few weeks ago that I saw him and was planning to see again - but it was not to be... Our friendship was unique and we leaned so much form each other for which am so very grateful. Will cherish the memories till we meet again in the spiritual realm.
Hope that in due course...the sorrow and the loneliness we all feel now will be replaced with enduring memories of all the wonderful times we had together.
Love,
Chris

Conrad, Mary and I met for breakfast at Western Fair Market every Saturday morning at 8am. He and I first met over 15 years ago and my favourite memory is sharing dinner with him perched in his tiny kitchen. He and I visited the Hyland Theatre together, shared a common passion for interesting books and travelling. He prided himself on always being punctual, and we often shared a breakfast at Mulligan's Pub followed by a wander out into the countryside. I know that he has been welcomed into Heaven for the kind, generous and giving soul that gave so much to our world. I will miss him. My condolences to all who knew and love him.

The image I have of the Odegaard family is one of a whole. A family that made a difference. Take away a part and the image changes. Conrad’s eclectic eccentricities rounded out the fullness of the Odegaard contribution to London life. The cornerstone, Eileen, will I know have the continued support of her very special family. Yet it won’t be quite the same without that very special “part”.

It is with sadness I learned of Conrad's passing. He was a kind and gentle soul, a lover of books but most of all, a lover of life and all that it had to offer. I was fortunate to have known him for a short while, but those are moments and memories that are sure to last a lifetime. Thank you Conrad for your kindness and goodness that you left us with, that are a memorial to your presence, and no matter how long the passages of time can never fade. You will be missed.

My deepest sympathies to Conrad's family. I share your loss as I have known Conrad for a very long time. We shared experiences dating back to our PUC Rec Department swimming and diving, high school athletics, and then as team mates at Western. I delighted in the stories he had to tell after his work up at the DEW line. Conrad amazed me with his continued interest in learning and innovation. When he showed me how he developed a system to grow spouts hydroponically in his basement, I could not believe the number of file cabinets filled with research on topics that interested him. Conrad did not just participate in swimming, diving and gymnastics. He excelled. Conrad was one of the first four Mustang swimmers and divers to be honoured by a ring ceremony as National Champions - his ring being presented by long time Western Swim Coach, the late Bob Eynon. I will miss you and your interesting stories, but most of all I will miss that young boyish smile that always crept across your face, showing pure delight, when there was something that pleased you. Rest in Peace.
