Obituary of Joanne Elizabeth Mackie

Oshawa 10 June 1940 – London 21 December 2018
During her 35 year career as an elementary school teacher and in retirement Joanne was a member of and volunteered for the Ontario Family Studies Home Economics Educators’ Association including the partnership with Swaziland Home Economics Association, archives; the International Federation for Home Economics including the 2014 council in London Ontario; the Canadian Home Economics Association, archives; the Ontario Home Economics Association, archives; the Hamilton Home Economics Association; the Georgetown Choral Society from 1971; Lydia Snow North Halton Branch Retired Women Teachers of Ontario, founding; an active member of St. John’s United Church Georgetown. In retirement Joanne took courses from the Archives Association of Ontario.
Eldest child of Kathleen (Hamilton) and Herbert Mackie, cherished sister of Pat (2016), Jeanette (2018), Alex (Susan) Mackie, Suzanne (Ron) Simpson, loving birth mother of Kendra Gregson, adored Auntie Jo of Roberta Duncan, Scott (2012) (Deb) (2009) Kossatz, Andrea Young, Shane (Julie) Kossatz. Marsha (Shayne) Guenette, Mark Mackie, Lesley Mackie, Dr. Stephanie (Mike) Gracey, Nicholas (Courtney) Simpson, and 16 great nieces and nephews.
Joanne’s celebration of life will take place on Friday January 4, 2019 at 1 PM at St. John’s United Church, 11 Guelph St. Georgetown ON. Internment will follow in the spring at Ebenezer United Church. In lieu of flowers donations to the following organizations would be appreciated; The Canadian Home Economics Foundation, The Heart and Stroke Foundation, or a charity of your choice.
