I have just found out about the death of Joanne and my heart felt condolences are sent to her family from Scotland.
I worked with Joanne in West Lothian and enjoyed showing her around Aberdeen. I have some lovely photographs which I would love to send
She was also very kind to my son James when he came to study in Canada - she met him at the Airport and sorted his accommodation returning the next week to check on progress and bring a cake.
She was a special lady and will not be forgotten.

I am in shock. Joanne and I were archival friends for at least 20 years and the terrible news of her passing is very hard to believe.....having received her Christmas card and note before Christmas.... I can't find the words to write today but will try to get in touch with her sister Suzanne soon..... My deepest and most heartfelt sympathy to all of Joanne's family and friends. She will be greatly missed and always remembered. Take care and carry on. Sincerely, Wilma

My deepest sympathy to Joanne's family, friends and colleagues. She played a significant role within the International Federation for Home Economics for many years, and in so many ways. We especially remember fondly one her last major roles - the 2014 IFHE Council meeting in London. Her steadfast commitment to her chosen field of home economics and her leadership as a teacher, volunteer, and internationalist added richness to all who knew her.

We remember Joanne so well as a dynamic and personable advocate of Home Economics within the Region of the Americas of the International Federation for Home Economists. We remember her fondly as she guided us through the planning and execution of a highly successful Council Meeting in London, Ontario in 2014. She will be sadly missed by our Home Economics Fraternity. May her precious soul Rest In Peace.

I'm surprised and saddened to learn of Joanne's death. It must have been sudden as she was always vibrant and lively when I would meet her. She was my Home Ec teacher at Stewarttown and was unable to help me with knitting in the German style which I had learned from my mother. I had to learn the British way of knitting too. Joanne was very kind to me when I joined the Georgetown Choral Society. She was also an early and faithful subscriber to my magazine Niagara Escarpment Views and spoke highly of it to others, in front of me. I had not seen her in a few months, and I had wondered about her. I'm truly sad to read her obituary in the local paper. I will miss her.

I am so sorry to learn of Joanne's passing. I had known Joanne for many years, as we both taught Home Economics/Family Studies in the Halton District School Board. Although we taught in different panels, she in elementary and I in secondary, we connected often. She was always so knowledgeable about the history of our Board. Joanne was a very strong supporter of Home Economists in Ontario and around the world and I fully appreciated her passion, enthusiasm and drive for our chosen subject area.
Sincerest condolences to her family,
Maria McLellan

My deepest condolences to the family of such a wonderful woman. I fondly remember Ms. Mackie as one of my very favourite teachers, she was always so kind and had so much patience with a class full of young teenagers. I was very fortunate to have run into Ms. Mackie a few years ago and we got the opportunity to chat about old times. RIP Ms. Mackie.

Ms Mackie was my Home Ec teacher at Stewartown and lead me in the direction of wanting to learn all I could on cooking. I used to go home and try all the receipes we learned on my family. She was the best teacher I ever had and remember her vividly even to this day. RIP you will be remembered and missed

Joanne and I taught together at Stewarttown Senior School for several years. She was very thorough and helpful in her teaching, and was disappointed when less and less attention was given to the study of Home Economics in the curriculum over the years. Joanne retired a few years before I did, but when I did retire, we worked together to form North Halton's branch of RWTO, which was given the name Lydia Snow. Lydia passed away before this wish was completed. Joanne and I worked together to write our first Constitution and to set the format for our meetings. Our minds worked very much in the same way, so we made a harmonious pair. Joanne was the first President of our Branch and was instrumental in supporting the philosophy of our Branch over the years. We also know of her many years with the Choral Society.
She was always ready to offer someone a ride to functions. Her annual party for retired teachers of Stewarttown School provided a pleasant way for us to meet old colleagues. Joanne was a truly giving person, a Christian in every sense of the word. She will be missed by all who associated with her. May she rest in peace.

It is with sadness that I read about Joanne's untimely passing. We were both members of the Canadian Home Economics Association and the International Federation of Home Economics. We met at various conventions. Joanne kindly consented to come to Montreal to give us a workshop on archiving, and her quiet reserve and expertise were much appreciated. The many organizations that Joanne belonged to will certainly miss her. My condolences to family and friends.
