Obituary of Daniel Vrancic

VRANCIC, Daniel "Dedo" – It is with great sadness that the family of Daniel Vrancic announce his passing at Oak Crossing Long Term Retirement Home on Saturday, December 8, 2018, at the age of 89. Beloved and loving husband of Georgina Vrancic of 65 years. Dear father of Damir (Emily) & Tim (Susan). Cherished grandfather “Dedo” of Daniel (Michelle), Patrick (Mollie), Jennifer (Colin), Nadia (James), Timothy (Ashley). Proud great-grandfather of Charlotte, Olivia, Jaxon, Alex and Theo. Daniel was born in Croatia on February 5, 1930. The son of the late Cecilia and Ivan Vrancic.  Predeceased by his brothers George Vrancic and Hinko Vrancic. Also will be missed by his nieces Jasna, Vesna and Gordana and his nephew Mladen, back in Croatia. Daniel and Georgina emigrated from Croatia to Canada in 1968 in pursuit of a better life for their family. He lived in Sarnia until his retirement from DOW Chemical in 1993 following which he and Georgina moved to London to be closer to their sons and grandchildren. He enjoyed many activities in his life including fishing, gardening, playing a variety of musical instruments, long walks with his wife, painting, and entertaining family and friends. He was a talented craftsman and there was nothing that he could not build or fix. Daniel was a student of history, politics and the English language. He took great joy in having spirited intellectual debates with his sons and grandchildren. His sons are eternally grateful for the sacrifices he and mom made so they could enjoy a better life in Canada. He will be fondly remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He will be deeply missed by all those whose lives he touched. A special thank you to the staff at Oak Crossing Long Term Retirement Home for all their care and support. Cremation has taken place. A private celebration of life will be held for family and close friends at the Windermere Manor, 200 Collip Circle, London on  Wednesday with internment to follow on Thursday at St. Peter’s Cemetery and Mausoleum.
