Obituary of Deborah Jane Farrell

FARRELL, Deborah Jane (nee Walker)

It is with sadness, but also with hearts full of gratitude for her life, that we announce the passing of Deb Farrell, peacefully on Saturday January 4th, 2025 with her family by her side.

Deb and Dave met in 1982 and were married in 1985. They raised two beautiful daughters, Elizabeth and Emily.

Born in England in 1961, Deb moved to Canada at the age of 12. She graduated from Western University in 1983 and achieved her Certified General Accountant designation in 1988. Deb was an accountant by trade and spent the first 15 years of her career in public practice, and her last 12 years as Administrator of Byron United Church.

Deb’s most important role however was that of volunteer. She was the treasurer of the Byron Co-op Preschool. She was a volunteer with Girl Guides of Canada for over 20 years, not only as a leader but as the treasurer of the local unit, from which she only just retired in August 2024.  Deb was a hard-working member and long-time treasurer of the Student Council at Kensal Park FI Public school, spending countless hours organizing field trips, fun fairs, and doing creative crafts for the students in her girls’ classrooms. In 2007, Deb was honoured with the Award of Distinction from TVDSB for her volunteer work at Kensal Park. She continued as treasurer of Student Council well after Liz and Em graduated. Deb was also the treasurer of the Southwest Competitive Soccer Club, managing the finances and helping the club to thrive. After her retirement from BUC in August 2023, she continued as a volunteer on the finance committee. Outside of her career and volunteering Deb loved spending days in the garden, reading books, travelling, teaching people to play cribbage, but especially spending time with her friends and family.

Deb will be deeply missed by Dave, Liz, Em, her mom Doreen, her sister Alison, her grand-puppy Teddy, and the rest of her extended family and friends.

The Celebration of Life for Deb will be held at Byron United Church, 420 Boler Rd, on Saturday, January 25th, 2025. Informal visitation will begin at 1pm, with the Celebration beginning at 2pm with reception to follow.

Donations to Byron United Church or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
