Obituary of Thomas William Gutteridge
It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to Thomas William Gutteridge, a beloved brother, uncle, cousin and friend. Tom left this world peacefully on November 11th, 2024 at the palliative care centre in Parkwood Hospital.
Tom was born on July 27th, 1954 to Thomas Sr. and Mary Gutteridge (née Davidson) in London, Ontario. A vital member of his loving family Tom is survived by his older sisters Maureen (Jerry) and Colleen (Larry), his nephews Nick and Andrey, as well as countless other family members and friends.
Passionate about learning and education Tom graduated from the University of Western Ontario in his early 20s and subsequently taught school children in Ghana. After a difficult battle with malaria Tom was forced to return home where he focused on researching and writing about a variety of topics, in particular the history of Southwestern Ontario. Tom was an avid reader and loved to share his knowledge with others, impressing family and friends with deep reservoirs of information on the most esoteric subjects. An ethical man of steadfast principles, Tom was a man primarily guided by his faith and an active member of the Salvation Army.
Special thanks to the staff at University Hospital and Parkwood Hospital for the care and support they showed Tom during the final weeks of his life. He was always trying to find his place in the world and now he has found peace.
Tom’s Funeral and Celebration of Life will be held in the New Year.
