My memories of Richard as my brother-in-law and friend are precious to me. He always had a radiant smile, a quick wit and found humor in all things which kept us all on our toes and laughing.
One of my favorite stories was when the boys were working on Grandma’s house (I think it was on the roof) and occasionally the other boys would let an expletive fly when hammers hit thumbs instead of nails. Finally, they asked Richard how he kept his cool when it happened to him. His reply was “I may not say it, but where I spit the grass will never grow again!” THAT was Richard.
He was loved by all who knew him. His boundless energy was phenomenal and his endless desire to serve and care for others was simply just who he was.
Trips to Canada were always great fun with all of the boys and good times were had when they were all in Smithville in their boots and cowboy hats riding on Martha… a hog, not a horse! He and Vi even came to see Ellie and me when we moved to Lewisville… they always wanted to be sure I was okay and I love them both dearly for that.
I am heartbroken, but his struggles are over and he is with the Lord whom he lovingly served throughout his life.
Rest in peace dear Richard.
My Love,
Jana
