Obituary of James Harold Dempsey
James (Jim) Harold Dempsey
Peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospice in London on October 23, 2017, in his 83rd year. Beloved husband of Maria Bruna. Loving father of Elena and Melissa. Cherished Pappy to Mikhail, Dempsey, and Matthew. Big brother of Jerry. Favorite uncle to Pam and Ben.
Jim was raised by his mother, Elaine, in London, Ontario, where he attended Central Secondary School and Western University. He taught in high schools in Toronto, Thunder Bay and the London area.
Jim’s passions were his family, raising thoroughbred horses, and his vocation as a teacher and coach. Throughout his life, Jim took great joy in following the lives of his students and celebrating their accomplishments. His caring nature, zeal for life, sharp wit and sense of humor and pursuit of excellence were the hallmarks of his life.
With peace and grace, Jim moved from health through illness without regret and with gratitude for a rich life with so many blessings. We can take solace that Jim was a good man who lived a good life. How fortunate we are to have had Jim in our lives.
Jim’s family wishes to acknowledge the exceptional people at St. Joseph’s Hospice who gave such kind and compassionate care to Jim and his family.
While we can no longer hold you in our arms, we will forever hold your memory in our hearts.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Jim’s life will be held in the Spring. The family asks that Memorial Donations in lieu of flowers be made to St. Joseph’s Hospice.
