Obituary of Kenneth 'Ken' Herbert Fleet
Ken’s love of teaching and music live on through his students and all those who have sung or heard his choirs. His energy, sincerity, humour and love for his family and his work were evident in all he did. As a teacher, choral conductor, inspirational speaker, guest clinician, adjudicator, counselor, friend, husband, father and grandfather, his humility and dedication inspired, accepted and supported everyone he met.
Ken taught Music at Medway High School for 30 Years and at Western University in the Faculty of Music and the Faculty of Education periodically throughout his career. He conducted London Pro Musica for 23 years and was co-conductor of the Amabile Boys and Men’s Choir for 15 years. Ken was comfortable teaching children and adults of all ages and conducted several community choirs in addition to those previously mentioned.
Ken was the recipient of several awards for excellence in teaching as well as conducting.
Ken passed away peacefully on Aug. 13 at the Village of Glendale Crossing three days before his 67th birthday. He is survived by his wife and best friend Janet, children, Andrew (Elsa Rose), Kimberly Maddigan (Kaitlyn), Rebecca Tompkins (Brian) and grandchildren, Orla and Greta Fleet, Rian and Teaghan Maddigan, Alex, Sophie and Julianna Tompkins and his brothers, Greg (Mary) and Randy. He will also be missed by his nieces and nephews, cousins and Janet’s many family members. Predeceased by his parents, William and Myrtle Fleet.
A Memorial Service will be held at Metropolitan United Church, 468 Wellington St. London, on Friday, Aug. 23 at 3:00. Reception and visitation will be held at The Hyland Country Club, 1922 Highland Heights, London, following the service. Anyone who has sung under Ken’s direction or sung with him is invited to join a mass choir for the service. If you are interested in singing please email trees@amabile.com for details.
