Obituary of Robert Adolf Cook
Cook, Robert Adolf - Passed away peacefully in his 77th year, at 2:30 PM, September 17, 2018, in University Hospital, in London, Ontario. He leaves two sons Benjamin Cook and Michael Cook, and a sister, Shirley McDonald (Jack McDonald). He is predeceased by his father Adolf Cook, his mother Bernice Cook (Frankiewicz) and his brother Gordon Cook.
He was born in Gimli, Manitoba and raised in Winnipeg. He attained his PhD in Biochemistry at the University of Manitoba and then did a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of California, Berkeley. He was hired by the University of Western Ontario, London Ontario, where he was a professor of Biochemistry until he retired in 2005.
As a youth he played violin in the Winnipeg youth symphony. He was a well rounded athlete playing football, golf and curling. He loved music, travelling, fishing, cooking and belonged to a gourmet group for many years. Early in his career he enjoyed throwing big parties for his cohorts and students. He was gentle and soft spoken with a magnificent voice. He loved all people and made everyone comfortable in his presence. He was a joyful person.
A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday September 26, 2018 from 12:00 PM - 3:00 PM, in room 346, Medical Sciences Building at the University of Western Ontario. Parking is available in the Social Sciences Parking Lot across the street from the Medical Building. Handicapped Parking is available (2 to 3 spots) at the front door of the Medical School.
