Obituary of James Bagnall
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James Bagnall on Sunday, February 4, 2018 in his 93rd year. Beloved husband of Gladys (nee Healey) whom he married on July 27, 1946 in the town of Denton, England. Dearly loved father of Stephen (Ginny), Alison (Robert), Sharon (Michael) and Andrew (Joanne). Loved by grandchildren Elizabeth, Carlene, Kendra, David, James, Philip, Callum and Michael, great grandson Zieryn, brother-in-law Norman, sister-in-law June, many nieces, nephews and step grandchildren.
James served in the Royal Navy on the aircraft carrier HMS Attacker during WWII. After the war, James sought new adventure and opportunity when he immigrated to Canada in 1957 with Gladys and young Stephen and Alison. While he loved England, not long after their arrival Jim, Gladys and their children became proud Canadians. During his long career with the Canadian government, he was highly regarded in the business community for his honesty and integrity, and was admired as a true gentleman.
In his younger years, James greatly enjoyed playing soccer and cricket. He played the piano, was an avid reader, and loved to listen to the stories of others. In his later years, he was a talented bowler - bringing home more than one trophy as a member of a winning Senior League Championship Team.
James was a very loving and caring companion to Gladys and an anchor for all his children and extended family. When the storm winds of life blew, his iron clad determination kept his family safe in their ship, beyond the reach of the rocky shoreline. He was a strong protector. He set an example for all of us to follow, leaving footprints in the hearts of others that even the strongest tide can't wash away. With Gladys at his side, they sacrificed and worked endlessly to provide their family with a better life. We will miss him tremendously. Although today it feels as though the storm has won, it hasn't and his memory will continue to bind his family together.
A private service will be held for close family to celebrate our beloved Jimmy. Donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
