Obituary of Kevin Leigh Sambell

Obituary – Kevin 'Leigh' Sambell
After a lifelong fight with severe health challenges, Kevin Leigh Sambell, at the age of 58, and with his
wife by his side, surrendered and was released into the Lord's care on December 31st 2017.
A month after a pancreas transplant at Toronto General Hospital in August of 2013, Leigh suffered a
massive stroke which left him paralyzed on one side, confined to a wheelchair and unable to talk except
for a few words. Despite this, he was an example of incredible courage, humility, strength and
perseverance. He was a lion heart and gentle soul who touched people; he was well known and
beloved by many staff and residents at Parkwood Hospital and, later on, in long term care at Henley
Place.
He is survived by his wife, Lori Morrison-Sambell, and their daughter, Brienne Sambell.
He is predeceased by his mother, Harriet Sambell and he will be missed by his sister, Cathy, his brother,
Paul (Angela), his father Bill and his nieces Ketrina, Cori, Leanne and Emily.
He will also be greatly missed by his many friends and, in particular, his 'brothers' – Jim, Dan and
Andrew – who were a presence in his life right to the end. A special thanks goes to Jim and his wife
Kelly for their generosity and the wonderful meals enjoyed at their home and at Parkwood Hospital.
Lori and Leigh would also like to acknowledge their blessing in having such kind and caring
neighbours (cutting grass and clearing snow in the years following the tragedy). In particular, they
would like to thank Mike who helped with many things including going to the nursing home to feed
Leigh in the last few weeks. They would also like to acknowledge the love Leigh received from many
of the staff at Henley Place.
In a word, Leigh would say it this way – Wow.
A private memorial service will be held at The Rose Chapel on Saturday January 13th
