Obituary of Alice Slowinski
At Dearness Home, July 20th, 2017, 8:02 pm at the age of 93, Alice Slowinski passed peacefully from this world surrounded by love in the presence of her daughter, son-in-law and her caring support staff.
Born Winnifred Mary Alice in Toronto, the first daughter of Gladys & Jim Bullough, she grew up, met and married Douglas Gordon Ralph and raised their two daughters Dianne & Linda in that city. They built a cottage on Sturgeon Lake in the Kawarthas and later retired there enjoying an active life that included travel, golf and square-dancing. Following the death of Doug, Alice lived for a short time in Fenlon Falls, where she met and later married the second love of her life, square-dance and travel partner, John Arthur Slowinski. They lived for a short time in John’s home in St Catharines but moved back to the Kawarthas to a lovely home in Victoria Place, Bobcaygeon. Poor health later took them to Adelaide Place Retirement Home in Lindsay and after suffering the loss of her second husband, Alice moved to London ON to be near her daughter Dianne. There she resided at Windermere on the Mount and later at the Dearness Home, rarely missing a Bingo game. Predeceased by her brother Jack.
Alice is survived by her daughters Dianne Campbell (Ed) of London, Linda Cairns of Newmarket, step-sons Donald Slowinski (Betty) of Kitchener, Bob Slowinski (Paula) and Jeff Slowinski (Holly) of St Catharines as well as her sister Betty Rollings of Lindsay. She will be sorely missed by her 11 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
As per her wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family celebration of her life will be held in the near future. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, condolence cards or donations, those wishing to honour Alice’s memory do so by performing random act(s) of kindness in her name.
